Hearing loss prevention starts one place: the right form of protection. While hearing loss can occur over time, a person can protect themselves on the job, during recreational activities or from exposure to loud noises. At Associated Specialists in Hearing Disorders & Hearing Aids, we want to help you find the best protection possible for your lifestyle, whether you enjoy swimming or music.
How loud is too loud?
Sound is measured in decibels (dB). A conversation between two people registers around 50dB. A quiet room is measured at 30dB. Sound that is louder than 85dB is considered too loud: a blow-dryer, helicopter and chainsaw all measure at 100dB, while a jet engine 100 feet away measures 130dB.
Earplugs and earmolds
At Associated Specialists in Hearing Disorders & Hearing Aids, you can choose from custom-made earplugs and earmolds for the most effective hearing protection. These devices can help prevent hearing loss from occurring in the first place.
Custom earplugs are made to fit inside the contour of the inner ear. Custom earplugs offer the most secure and tightest fits. Custom earplugs are suitable for many people, including:
- Musicians
- Music lovers or concert-goers
- Manufacturing employees
- Swimmers
- Nightclub worker or patron
- Entertainment industry staff
- Surfers
- Individuals who have sleeping due to loud noises
- Pilots
- Hunters
Custom earmolds are larger than earplugs and are made to fit the contour of the outer ear. Earmolds are available in both full-shell or half-shell size. Full-shell earmolds provide a higher level of protection against noise, while half-shell earmolds provide less. Custom earmolds can be playful and an expression of one’s fashion, with different colors, types and sizes available. Learn more here.
Hearing protection for musicians
Musicians are in need of hearing protection that saves their hearing but still enables them to hear the music around them. At Associated Specialists in Hearing Disorders & Hearing Aids, we work with musicians to provide creative solutions that both protect their hearing while empowering them to keep listening to their surrounding environment, with the peace and mind knowing their hearing is protected.
Musicians can choose from custom-made earmolds, filtered attenuators and monitors. Monitors and headphones both block out unwanted external sound while the monitor mix and delivers directly into a musician’s headphones.
